The year’s wrap up for 2012

December 29th, 2012 by

Once again i am writing apologies for such a long absence from my blogging. Sorry! I’ve been quite busy since I last wrote, and I will try to fire through those past 2 months or so with some pictures instead of many words. They do say a picture is worth a thousand words … and knowing me I could write a few thousand given half a chance!

Ironman Arizona on Nov18th didn’t go to plan unfortunately … good swim, good 2/3s of the bike and then, well … that was kinda that. – I walked/jogged (but never graduated to a run) for the first half marathon before deciding to pull the pin as it clearly wasn’t my day. I guess thats high perfomance sport; you win some you lose some. C’est la vie.

On getting home from Arizona I jumped (pretty much) straight into the East District x/c league race in Livingston. Quite the baptism of fire it was as well! I enjoyed it though, and ran the District Champs in Cupar 2 weeks later round a very muddy field with much better success. I had forgotten just how good these types of local races are as training tools!

I spent 11 days prior to Christmas in Aguilas down on the south coast of Spain. This is almost a home from home for me and folk like Cartiona Morrison and Gavin Noble amongst others … we have been going there on and off annually since 2002! Times flies but Aguilas doesnt change too much! Its still as great a training location as any I have been to, and both Cat and Gav were also in town getting back into training too. It was great to catch up.

I was doing a fair bit of my training alongside the Scottish Tri squad, which kept me on my toes and I thoroughly enjoyed those sessions. On our final day we did a mock race, starting at this wee beach in the pic above… it was a good ‘fun’ session!

Blair and I were home from Aguilas the weekend just before Christmas and we were in need of a good feed! Mum provided us with a lovely Christmas dinner and I certainly ate far too much as I’m sure most of us do at this time of year. It was good fun doing it though 🙂

Abbie took some great pictures during the day and it was a lovely day all round 🙂

Next up is the start of the 2013 season: I am leaving tonight for a flight to Sydney and then onwards to Hobart, Tasmania to spend a couple weeks training with my Trek/KSwiss team mate Joe Gambles, as we both prepare to start the year at the new Auckland 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship on Jan 20th. I have only been to Australia once back in 2005 and so I am really looking forward to seeing the place again and then hopefully getting my Kona 2013 campaign up and running in New Zealand with a bang!
