A week has gone by since we got home from the middle east, (time flies) and I am well on my way to being recovered and ready to tackle the next phase of training. However, there are a few more pics here that I have to remind myself of the antics last w/e in the desert heat.

Thanks go out to Eric Wynn for these cracking shots taken at Clearwater. Having long admired his snaps of top athletes from many a major race around the US, it is nice for me to be caught by his lens also.

Clearwater – we’re here!

We arrived in Clearwater this afternoon. Finally, its nearly race time! We got registered, and I did some tv stuff for a programme channel 4 will run in December time at home, which is nice. This 70.3 thing is catchin on…..!

Always surprises me the that people are interested in a camera crew, no matter where you are!

Scottish Duathlon Champs 2008

And we’re off….. the start of the Scottish Duathlon Championships this morning at Stirling University. Spot me in there somewhere if you can.

Another weekend of Championships racing for me in Scotland – making the most of it certainly – after the Aquathlon at Portobello last weekend. Happily i came away with another win. These races are good training, plus the race here in Stirling ensured I barely had to roll out of bed and wander along the road to be on the start line. Which is handy. Once again the weather gods were kind. Had the race been yesterday, I doubt I would have raced; lashing rain and a biting wind. Blair and I were actually through on Princess Street in Edinburgh, walking along like a jack knife into the elements. So the clear blue sky and calm conditions were a delight. Wasn’t even that cold.

I don’t particularly like duathlon. I’m glad I know how to swim reasonably thats for sure. The first run was tough – 4 laps, hilly and twisty around the uni campus, and I was dropped on the last lap – this lad in the pic got a few secs on me, but I was out on my bike before him.

I haven’t been riding my bike a whole lot lately, due to an issue with my knee/quad tightening up. – An Ironman attempt hangover I guess. Therefore I wasn’t too keen on riding super hard, and although it isn’t yet perfect, I got round ok in decent time, posting the fastest bike split (although Blair, whilst riding for a relay got me by 30 secs!). The second run went a lot better than the first and I was quite happy with the mornings effort. After a little power nap in the avo I headed out for shuffle with Gordon and rounded up a 110k run week, which is starting to get me towards being ‘fit’.

Trophy in hand. Happy days. But I’m still not sold on the whole duathlon gig.

Today us at TotalRacingInt.com had ourselves a few photies on the shore of loch Venachar, not so far away from Stirling. It was sunny, for the most part, but oh so brrrr. Autumn is here for sure.

So far this year it has been myself and Alun Woodward racing pro in the colours of T.R.I, but we’re increasing in size. The older half of the Jameson brothers (TeamJameson.co.uk) – Toby - plus Scottish Ironman record holder (8.35.09), Graeme Stewert will race from now on also.

It was good fun to get together, albiet not for so long, and in particularly chilly circumstances i might add. But it didn’t rain, and that was a good thing!

The scenery up around loch Venachar is cracking for getting good pictures.
