Scottish Duathlon Champs 2016

March 31st, 2016 by

2016 is a new year, and this weekend saw me start this new season wearing new racing colours. – I am now a part of the Pewag Racing Team, which is Austrian sponsored and based, but is composed of an international group of 9 professional athletes. I look forward to wearing the kit and promoting the brand in international competition over the coming months.

The Stirling Duathlon has many times been a season opener for me, and as long as I am at home and in the country, I will do my best to race. I might not entirely enjoy the idea of running and biking (and running some more) in the mud, wind, rain, hail and cold… But I’ll get on with it😉

As part of the team we have a range of partner sponsors which means some changes for me in terms of the equipment I’ll be racing with during the year. Thankfully I continue to race in the superb Castelli clothing but the Stirling Duathlon will have been my last race aboard a Trek. I have been incredibly fortunate to have had the support of such an iconic brand for the past six seasons, but as part of Pewag I will be using a new bike, which hopefully I will have in time for my first triathlon next month.

The face says it all: racing in Scotland in March is demanding stuff. Especially Duathlon – it really is a tough way to spend 2 hours of a Sunday morning! But it blew the cobwebs and cleaned the pipes. The next time will (hopefully) be that bit easier as a result.

I finished up in 2nd place behind youngster Fergus Roberts. – He led from the gun to the tape and I was pleased to see him race so well and collect what is hopefully his first of many Scottish Titles. I remember mine – Scottish Standard Distance Champs at Monikie Country Park in the summer of 2002!
