Back home: Scotland

After having spent more than the first 2 months of this new year away from home, its nice to be settled back in Stirling and after a couple of weeks since returning from Abu Dhabi, that’s what I am doing. Getting back into a (wintery) routine.

Yes, there has been snow since I’ve been home (where is Spring?) - but without trying to make a contradiction –  that means there has also been some great winter training weather too. I am a big fan of Scotland at this time of year, and the oppertunity to get some nice pictures whilst out on the bike has been too good to miss.

Abu Dhabi International Triathlon 2013

This past weekend I was back in Abu Dhabi for my third visit to the Emirate. I was hoping for 3rd time lucky with regards to my race result - having had two good results on the previous trips I have come to think on it as a happy hunting ground. I guess all good things come to an end though!

I have plenty of good memories of racing in Abu Dhabi. I really believe the distances suit me well and unlike many longer distance races the swim seems to play a bigger part in the way the race pans out, which is of course a good thing for me usually. I am also partial to racing in the odd spot of sunshine too!

Panama Ironman 70.3 – Latin American Championships

This weekend saw me racing in my 2nd Championhip 70.3 in two weeks – visiting a 3rd Continent in the five weeks since leaving home and ensuring a serious number of airline travel miles along the way. Not to mention a lot of packing and re packing of my bike… if I wasn’t already a near expert, I can feel confident in my claim to be one now ;)

The Bridge of Americas was a focal point of this race. I may have written about my lack of enthusiasm for the hype surrounding us racing over the Auckland Harbour bridge in New Zealand in my last race, however this time around we were crossing a bridge that links both the South and North American Continents, and untill 2004 it was the only one that did so. Now that – in my opinion – is a bridge worth chatting about! And it was deceptively steep (and windy) up there too. Read on …
