On Sunday afternoon I was on the start line of the richest race in Triathlon, alongside 29 other happy athletes … with over a million dollars being divied up over the course of the days racing and guaranteed prize money simply for finishing (a la Tennis and Golf to name a few other sports) we had reason to be happy. Everyone seemed to be a winner in Des Moines on Sunday!

The swim was without doubt one of the hardest/scariest/strangest I have ever been a part of. And I’ve swum a few!

Later today I will start in the Des HyVee 5150 olympic distance event … and I can’t wait to get going with it – excited indeed! This was an unexpected race for me, but I’m taking it with both hands!

The race is going to be live on the web at www.hy-veetriathlon.com so hopefully you can watch us and me online – the girls start at 7.30pm and we hit the water at 10pm UK time.

Wish me luck – there is a record prize purse on offer of over $1million for us to race for, so it’s exciting times for the sport of triathlon.

I tend to be lazy when it comes to having my hair cut … and this trip to Boulder has been no exception. I do believe that when I arrived here some 6+ weeks ago I was suggesting I would need to get it chopped soon. Well, it took till today and I reckon I may have lost a lb or two in the process! – Just in time for the heat of Des Moines and Las Vegas I say. – Always a method to the madness
