IM France, Nice 2014

Wednesday, July 16th, 2014

From Briancon in the Alps with two train journeys under my belt and I was on the Cote d’Azur and the Promenade des Anglais in Nice. Ali had planned this event as her qualification race for hopefully getting back to Kona later this year and I was chief supporter for the trip. I’d rested hard on […]

Riding in the French Alps

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

After racing in Spain at the Zarautz Triathlon I was fortunate enough to be able to join in with Triathlon Performance Solutions  summer training camp. Having been involved in their winter camp at Playatis back in February I was looking forward to meeting some new faces amongst some amazing cycling terrain around Briancon, in the French Alps.

Zarautz Triathlon 2014 – 3/80/20k

Tuesday, July 8th, 2014

2nd place – 4:04:58 This picture doesn’t do the gradient justice I am afraid! Zarautz is a fantastic race for many reasons and one of those is the punishing climbs that feautre towards the tail end of the bike ride. I will pack more gears for next year!

Scottish Sprint Champs 2014, Knockburn Loch

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014

1st place – 55:05 Cameron Milne 2nd, myself 1st and Craig Dale 3rd It was a great morning for racing on Sunday in Aberdeenshire. I have never until now managed to race at Knockburn due to clashes with other racing commitments I’ve had over the years. I’m very glad I was able to make the start […]

Bilbao Triathlon 2014

Thursday, May 29th, 2014

2nd place – 4:10:08 It was a productive return visit to the Basque Country this past Saturday – a step further up the podium than 2012.

Scottish Olympic Championships 2014

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

1st place – 1:49:16 Douglas Roberts, myself and Cameron Milne just after finishing the Scottish Championships at Stratchlyde Park on Sunday. Whilst we got to race over much of the upcoming Commonwealth Games course, the arrival of some sunshine certainly brought a smile to our faces. Nobody (whatever they may tell you) likes racing in […]

Mallorca: training & Ironman 70.3

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

In mid May Ali was racing the Mallorca 70.3 and after my race in Elche I was keen to knuckle down with a good block of hard training. Luckily I was able to combine both my training and supporting requirements (!) by virtue of a training trip to C’an Picafort on the Mallorcan north coast. I […]

Elche Half Ironman, Spain

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

3rd place – 4:06:38 My racing season got properly started with my first triathlon of the year – the Triatlon de Elche at the end of April. I raced here last year and really enjoyed the event, so was pleased to be returning this year. Unfortunately Ali got a pesky sickness bug the night before […]

Easter weekend in Nice

Tuesday, May 20th, 2014

For the Easter long weekend last month Ali and I spent our time in the south of France with Richard & Jenny from her Freespeed team. We mostly were having a look at the Ironman France bike route as Ali will race the event at the end of June. It was a great part of the world […]

2014 begins: Scottish Duathlon Championships

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014

1st place – 1:53:32 The end of September was a serious stretch of time ago, and yet that was the last time I raced an event. The year started in a familiar fashion, with a useful stint in my home from home over the years – Aguilas, Spain. I had a further training trip to the Canary […]

Hawaii Ironman World Championships 2013

Friday, October 25th, 2013

This is where it all starts, and where it all finishes (it just looks a little different when they build the finishers arch and ramp!) Racing in Kona was Ali’s goal all year and it was also mine for a good portion of the year too but I was just glad that one of us held up […]

Beijing International Triathlon 2013

Saturday, September 28th, 2013

7th place – 2:05:44 My race in China this past weekend didn’t exactly go to plan I’m dissapointed to report. As this picture unfortunately shows, I was racing alone and this wasn’t a good thing …

Castle Triathlon Series; Chateau de Chantilly

Friday, August 30th, 2013

3rd place – 2.07.49 Last weekend Ali and I travelled to France for our second experience of the Castle Triathlon Series. Following on from the great race we had at the Castle Howard event the month previous we were looking forward to another fun trip.   The venue was stunning, it was just a real shame […]

Scottish Long Course Champs, Aberfeldy

Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

1st place – 4:14:18 I learned my lesson last time. That may have been in 2007 but the weather was brutal back then too (and I needed to borrow a fleece from a volunteer!) so I was very glad of my jacket on Saturday. Summer racing in Scotland 😉

European Ironman 70.3 Champs, Wiesbaden

Thursday, August 22nd, 2013

16th place – 4:18:36 Scots abroad! The odd one out in this winning quartet is me! L-R; Ritchie 1st, Ali 1st overall a/g, mysel and Catriona in 3rd place. It was a lot of fun & inspiring knowing they were all doing so well whilst on the run course.

Ironman UK, Bolton 2013

Wednesday, August 21st, 2013

Despite this event being one of my key goal races of the summer, sometimes things just plain and simple don’t go to plan. And so my day in Bolton earlier this month can be more or less summed up by the below picture taken just before I jumped into the water… Looking a little confused. Not as confused […]

Castle Triathlon Series; Castle Howard

Wednesday, July 24th, 2013

1.5k, 46k, 10k – 2.10.57, 1st place A great race on Sunday morning in Yorkshire, pushed all the way to the line by David Bishop with Luke Watson in 3rd

Ironman European Championships, Frankfurt

Monday, July 15th, 2013

24th place – 8:40:21 It was a long and hot July day and this finish line took a bit longer to reach than I would have liked, but finish I did. – There were enough moments during the race when I would have rather done anything but finish, however you wouldn’t learn anything with that attitude now […]

Ironman 70.3 UK, 2013

Thursday, June 20th, 2013

Despite some …em .. typically British Summertime weather to contend with, this was my 6th time racing at Wimbleball, and I must say it was almost as memorable as any of the occasions on which I was fortunate to have won the event. I very much enjoyed my race on Sunday – it was my […]

Stirling Tri 2013

Wednesday, June 5th, 2013

My oh my how the years roll by – it was just the other week that I was asking Andy at the Stirling Tri Club if he had any space for me to join in and race … but wait a minute … that was last year! And here we are again – the first weekend in June […]
