Just a quick race update from this morning here in St Petersburg – 14th place, 1:53:16. My leg didn’t hurt either (well, they collectively ‘hurt’ as a pair, but my sore spot didn’t hurt!) – and that is progress in the land-of-Fraser right now, let me tell you. (And I even outsplit the fastest girl on [...]

Unfortunately I am reporting a DNF from the race today in Oceanside, however, on the plus side of things I had a great swim/bike out there which has given me a good indication of how I am travelling right now. I have had a problem in my lower leg for a month now, and although [...]

Today I raced an olympic distance event in Miami. Non drafting. I finished 8th place in 1.52.16. It was a tough day at the office as they say, but a solid start to the year in the Northern Hemisphere.

So the racing has begun – 2009 is well under way and I’m delighted to have kicked it off with a 2nd place on Sunday in Buffalo City, East London. I started to get a little ahead of myself around 30k on the bike – got a tad excited shall I say, as I reckoned [...]

Saturday morning was spent watching, cheering and ’seconding’ at this local, but extremely unique multisport event a bit further down the coast. The Totalsports Challenge (totalsports.co.za) comprises of 7 seperate disciplines, and equates to what must feel like an ironman – taking the winner, my good friend Dan Hugo (dghugo.com), well over 6 hours to [...]

I watched online via the xterra.tv link, and that was pretty cool – the swim and finsh at least….the in-between-bits were a bit too much fuzzy-helicoptor-heights and catch-a-glimpse-if-you-can but hey, better than nothing.

….for a chuckle.
I’m sitting in Houston Intercontinental Airport. Tired, bored, and fed up with the prospect of yet another flight onwards to San Diego. It’s been a long 20hours or so since I got out of bed this morning (or yesterday?) – Stirling. Edinburgh Airport. New York Newark Airport – where the Customs and Border [...]

Sunshine. It happens en Ecosse you know….
Nearly October? Swimming in the sea, and in SCOTLAND??
Yup, needs must, and well, I hadn’t raced a Championship event at home this year. Plus, David had won two events this year already, so I figured he’d had enough already!! Just kidding. Well, not really.

Where is the pontoon going?
I last raced at the Bala triathlon in 2001, as a not-so-fast-junior. Yesterday I raced as a not-so-fast-senior!

Alhough it is nearing the end of the season for many folk, i’m still looking further down the road. The 2008 Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Florida is a mere 8 weeks away, and it is a big goal or mine.

Well, i didn’t finish. Just to clear that one out of the way. Unhappy? Of course. Stiff and sore today? Aye. But not really much worse than if i had emptied the tank racing a 70.3. My point being? Simply that i was never going to ruin the end of my season by simply finishing an Ironman, [...]

It’s Thursday morning and we’ll head off down the road in the general South West direction a bit after lunchtime. Blair and i are thumbing a lift with our great friends/second family/often-helpers-in-a-bind/supporters and most recently providers of transport (alas, the Clio died a death and we had to scrap it…. but thankfully there was a Punto going spare for [...]
