Happy – proud even, to reach the finish line in second place at Bolton on Sunday. Ironman is a long, tough day for one and all … me included. This was my longest one yet – all 9 hours, 7 minutes of it, and therefore continuing an upwards trend in my finish times – note to self; something […]

It might be March, in Scotland …. but look at that sunshine! This is me finishing up the bike leg from Sunday’s Scottish Duathlong Champs held at the University Campus here in Stirling. It was a fun morning, and hey, it reached nearly 20C by the time we had finished!

2011 has been a very different year to that of 2010, thats certainly for sure. Similarities in my Ironman racing during both those years can start and end in the simple fact that I ‘completed’ Ironmans in both years. – In Kona last year I did nothing more than toe tread water) the start line and cross the […]

Steelhead was never a race that I had planned to race at before I arrived in the US – but after the Boulder 70.3 last weekend I decided to make the trip over to Michigan and do my first ‘back to back’ in some time; it could end in tears, or – I hoped – act as […]

9th Place: Swim 24:00, Bike 2:03:48, Run 1:29:59 ….total 3:59:50 Yesterday was the next installment in my ‘racing myself back to shape’ programme … let say I maybe underestimated the effects of racing at a mile high elevation after less than 3 weeks of acclimatisation, but lessons were learned and plenty positives taken. Onwards and upwards.

Let me tell you – this week has been a busy one; starting off with a trip to Switzerland , a couple days at home to pack (read: procrastinate) and head on over to the US for 6 weeks of training and racing based out of Boulder. En route was a visit to Trek in […]

Two weeks further down the line from the trip to liverpool and with two more weeks of Shire-training tucked away it was time to head towards departures at Edinburgh airport once more. Destination Zurich; for the next round of the Ironman 5150 series of olympic distance racing. I had Ritchie Nicholls as a travel buddy, starting only his […]

It’s been a while, but I’m back in the game! And I’m glad to say I’m loving it. Today (in case it wasn’t clear from the heading!) was the Scottish Sprint Championships at Lochore Meadows and my first race for 2011. Training had been ticking over nicely the last couple of months and at the […]

Ironman was something I have always been in awe of since I started to race triathlon – the distances alone are pretty crazy when you sit down and actually think about them! – but from the start of the year Ironman UK has been a firm target for me and that ensured I was always looking forward […]

I am a happy and content camper indeed this evening …. to try and win at Wimbleball Lake for a 3rd time yesterday has been a goal of mine all year – and so it feels extremely satisfying to have managed to do just that.

On Sunday I took on a world class field at Leybourne Lakes, Kent at the TriGrandPrix and crossed the line as the winner, the reality of which is still sinking in if I am honest. – It was the goal, but to actually tick the box is always tricky. I believe as I spoke to Jose – who […]

5th place, 4.13.07 I can safely say that was the hardest racing experience I have had for some considerable time, if not ever! What a course – choppy (but beautiful) sea swim, hilly and technical bike capped off with a brutally hot and energy sapping run route. I believe I told myself time after time […]

Another funky little Abu Dhabi race video compilation from Wattie who was out there helping us Trek/K Swiss athletes out – many thanks buddy, especially for changing my flat in T1 40 minutes prior to the gun firing. I wasn’t flapping at all. Promise!?!

Woohoo! I won! It was 2 years and 3 attempts coming, but I secured a victory in East London on Sunday finally – and it felt good for sure. It’s not easy to win a race these days, so I am more than happy with how I coped on race day to do just that. […]

I’m home, I’m unpacked (well, the bike can well and truly stay where it is for a little longer, let’s not get carried away) and feeling a lot closer to human after the travel. Therefore I have had some time to reflect properly and objectively about Clearwater at the weekend. I still stand by my initial […]

Windy? Yup. Hard work? For sure. Raining?? – Incredibly, no!! The Scottish Olympic distance Champs in Gullane kicked off this morning and I headed along hoping for a start (I was on the waiting list). I like to race at home, and I haven’t done it for ages. Especially not in Gullane. In fact, I last […]

I would prefer not to write, so I will keep it short and to the point. I didn’t finish yesterday in Prague and I am none to happy about it. Racing for GBR is somthing I don’t take lightly and I hoped to be in contention for a top 5 or better whilst doing so. […]

Despite racing over the 70.3 distance last weekend I had a plan b for this weekend if the legs felt willing … thankfully by Saturday morning they had started to come around and by Sunday morning they felt like my own once again. Just.

I had a fun day today – firstly racing, and then mostly helping out – at the Stirling Triathlon which included the Scottish Schools Championships. I like racing at home when I can, and the Stirling Triathlon Club have been very supportive of me so far, making it all the more worthwhile being able to give a little something […]

It’s taken a while, but I was able to get back to winning ways and defend my 2008 title yesterday at the TriAthy Triathlon in Athy, Ireland. Despite there being plenty to improve upon, the result marks a positve step in the right direction for me as the season rolls on in earnest.
